Tuning vocals with Melodyne and Auto-tuneTuning vocals has become an integral part of music production for the last 25 years . Since Cher's "Believe" in 1998 it has become a familiar sound in pop music. This workshop will teach basic techniques for tuning with two different pitch correction softwares: Melodyne 5 and Auto-Tune. For Melodyne we will learn its different tools for pitching, layering vocals and harmonies, adjusting siblances, and changing BPM. For Auto-tune this workshop will look into different settings and uses and techniques to get the most out of the software.  For producers, engineers, and artists alike, this class will give you the necessary tools to hit the ground running on how to use this software to the best of your advantages. For those that are veteran users of the software you may learn a feature or two you didn't know was even available!

You Will Learn: 
  • Pitching, tuning, and timing tools for editing vocals and other musical instruments
  • How to Use Melodyne for generating Midi files
  • How to set up your own shortcuts for easy navigation of the program
  • Proper techniques to ensure the most natural sounding vocal editing
  • Different uses for Melodyne and Auto-tune
  • Auto-tune pitching tricks and settings
About the Instructor:

Mariana Hutten (@mari_hutten) is a producer, mixing, and mastering engineer based in Toronto, Canada. Specialized in genres such as pop, rock, hip hop, and jazz, Hutten has worked in a wide range of projects consisting in recorded music, live recording, and music for video.  Hutten has worked on international projects from Montreal, Banff, Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, Monaco, among others. In addition to her cosmopolitan experience, Hutten has also worked on projects with producers such as Eddie Kramer, Colin Linden, and Richard King.
Hutten's goals and commitment to expanding women's involvement in the music and audio industry placed her as a mentor for young women in Toronto. As an Executive Member of the Audio Engineer Society Toronto (AES Toronto) and Co-Director of the Toronto SoundGirls Chapter.
