If you make great music, but no one knows who you are, does it even matter that you make great music? Learn some insider tips on writing press releases, pitching story ideas (and to whom), and why some artists get great media coverage, and others not so much. Why even hire a publicist, to begin with? Let’s get into it.

About the Speaker:

Dalton Higgins
is a publicist, author of six books (including Drake biography Far From Over), and co-host of the Black Tea podcast (Rogers Media). Higgins' books are carried in Cleveland’s Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame & Museum collection and Harvard University’s hip hop archive. Higgins has conducted breakthrough interviews with influential Black music personalities including Charlamagne Tha God and the late J Dilla. Higgins recently worked as a producer on CBC’s This Is Not A Drake podcast series voted one of Apple's 2020 Best of the Year. Higgins has managed publicity campaigns for Grammy Award winners/nominees (Buju Banton, Larnell Lewis / Aloe Blacc, A-Trak); BET Award winners (Giggs, Stonebwoy), Soul Train Music Award winners (Snoh Aalegra), Juno Award winners/nominees (Jazz Cartier, Kardinal Offishall, Classified / Allan Rayman, Emmanuel Jal); winners of the UK’s Mercury Prize (Benjamin Clementine), France’s Victoires de la Musique / French Grammy’s (Orelsan), and soca icon Machel Montano.

RBC Launchpad Music Entrepreneurship Program is a 4-month educational initiative dedicated to supporting and empowering local emerging artists, music creators, and entrepreneurs. The new edition of the program welcomes 50 participants between the ages of 18 to 35 that have been selected from more than 400 applications from all over Canada.

As part of this initiative, we are offering a number of music entrepreneurship workshops that are open to the Launchpad community and the public. Please note, some extra curriculum materials might be only available for the program participants.

Photographs and/or video will be taken at this event. By taking part in this event you grant the event organisers full rights to use the images resulting from the photography/video filming, and any reproductions or adaptations of the images for fundraising, publicity or other purposes to help achieve the group’s aims. This might include (but is not limited to), the right to use them in their printed and online publicity, social media, press releases and funding applications.
