This session tackles the nuts and bolts of project funding for the lean, mean independent creative or small business/collective. We’ll explore viable and sustainable methods of building supportive infrastructure: determining what you need (and what is “enough”), establishing a tiered strategy, financing your independent project, ensuring your ROI makes sense and putting your practice first.
You Will Learn:
How to build - and fill - a diversified budget and funding pipeline, around a project and long-term creative practice (hint: they are not mutually exclusive)
Identifying sources for revenue - and other support
Strategic project and development planning (ensuring successful delivery, with gas left in your tank)
Scoping, pivoting, and modifying: making your work, no matter what
Amy Gottung is a creative producer, fundraiser, and consultant based in Toronto, Canada. She has led the development and execution of many intrepid, boundary-pushing independent projects for platforms ranging from interactive media to art-tech hackathons, to international festivals. From 2016-2020 Amy served as Executive Director of Toronto’s “anarchic, circus-like” all-ages, pay-what-you-can underground music and art series, Long Winter (Rolling Stone), growing activity and funding by nearly 300%. She is a co-founder and principal of KRAK XR, a boutique VR/AR media studio and consultancy. Amy serves as an independent consultant and fundraiser for a variety of arts and non-profit organizations and initiatives, in Canada and internationally. She brings a varied practice working in partnership and advisory to independent artists and creatives.
