In this introductory workshop, participants will create a wooden keepsake box using a combination of the advanced and traditional manufacturing technologies available at Artscape Daniels Launchpad. The workshop will begin in the digital fabrication studio, where participants will use a laser cutter to fabricate components for a finger-jointed hardwood box. Next, using a variety of hand, power, and machine tools in the woodworking studio, participants will assemble, detail, and apply non-toxic finish to their boxes. Throughout this process, participants will learn about the properties of different wood species, how to safely and effectively operate the laser cutter and woodworking tools and machinery, and how to finish and care for an heirloom wooden object.

Requirements: Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which includes safety glasses, hearing protection, and a particulate dust mask or respirator. Participants must bring and wear closed toe shoes.
